Year 6 'Safety in Action' (17 images)

On Tuesday 16th April, our Year 6 pupils visited Kent's Safety in Action event in Tunbridge Wells. The children were challenged with ten real life scenarios that required careful thought and consideration. They had to make good decisions that kept them and their friends safe. Electrical safety, road safety, anti-social behaviour issues and staying safe at the disco were just some of the situations they faced. It was an excellent learning opportunity using real life to help them understand the importance of good decision making. Over 1800 pupils from a range of Kent schools will attend the event as part of the Year 6/Year 7 transition programme. Check out some of the action!

Downsview does Red Nose Day 2013 (14 images)

Wearing red clothing and sporting 'crazy hair', Downsview really got involved in Red Nose Day 2013. Thank you to all the children (and parents/carers) for making such a big effort - you all looked great! Staff too did their bit and I'd especially like to thank 'The Wrong Direction' for entertaining us at the end of our 'Share-A-Talent' assembly. Traditional Playground Games (10 images)

During Term 3, our Year 6 'Play Leaders' (helped by teachers and teaching assistants) taught the rest of the school some traditional playground games. There were many aims for this work including teamwork, fair-play and good communication but it was mainly about giving our children lots of ideas for fun games. We want all of our children to enjoy playtimes and have the skills to play and interact with others. The 'play leaders' finished the term with a fun event to promote all of the games and ideas that they had shared - and it was brilliant! PTA Xmas Disco delight! (20 images)

The school hall was rocking on Thursday (13th December) evening thanks to the brilliant PTA Christmas disco event. In fact, there were two discos...one for EYFS & Key Stage1 and a slightly later one for our Key Stage 2 children. Both were fabulous... Click the link for an array of images taken at the disco. PGL Residential Adventure (29 images)

On Friday 8th June 2012, nineteen Year 5 & 6 children (along with Mrs Morgan, Miss Cramer and Mr Edwards) waved goodbye to Swanley and travelled to Hindhead in Surrey for a fabulous four day adventure! It was absolutely fantastic! The children had a great time...challenging themselves in many exciting, exhilarating and perhaps daring activities... Whilst at PGL, the children climbed, abseiled, jumped off towers, rode quad bikes, shot at archery targets, climbed the 'Jacob's Ladder' and flew through the air on the zip wire! Phew! In amongst all the action, the children showed great team spirit, camaraderie and support. They were a credit to parents, teachers and themselves! Downsview celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee! (11 images)

To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, we oraganised a spectacular Country Dancing Festival held on Thursday 31st May - the final day of Term 5. It was brilliant! The children danced beautifully, cheered on and encouraged by staff and parents alike. The atmosphere was just wonderful - thank you to everyone who came along to support us! Before the dancing took place, we were joined by Mr Linnett (one of the Queen's Deputy Lieutenants) in the morning who led our assembly based on HRH Queen Elizabeth II and the monarchy. Chris Cook (Team GB Olympic swimmer) visits... (11 images)

There was a real buzz of excitement in our assembly on Friday (18th May) - the atmosphere was amazing...Chris Cook, Team GB swimmer and former Olympic finalist in Beijing 2008 was in the building! His presentation was inspirational and he gave the children a real insight in to what dedication, hard work and committment is all about. He talked about how he learnt from his mistakes and never gave up...he talked about listening to advice and following rules..he talked about how he felt when he won his Commonwealth Gold Medal in 2006...it was fantatsic. The children listened beautifully and asked some very thoughtful questions. It was a brilliant assembly leaving us all with lots of think about! (Ask your children about the polar bear and the penguin video clips he showed!). Paige, a pupil in Year 6, took these photos for our latest gallery...enjoy!

On Saturday 12th May, we completed our PTA Sponsored Walk. It was a great day out...and very good exercise too! As you will see from the gallery, we had a good response from children and families alike, young and old (including three generations). The aim of the walk was to raise funds for the school and already we have received over one hundred pounds with lots more still to come in! Evacuee Day (23 images)

On Thursday 15th March 2012, Fir Class stepped into the role of World War Two evacuees. They used their imagination and creative skills to write letters from the viewpoint of an evacuee describing their experience of being evacuated. Then, in the afternoon, they made and sampled 'rationing recipes' . A fabulous day!

World Book Day 2012 (16 images)

Downsview was packed with book characters from every genre on Thursday 1st March as we celebrated World Book Day. Over 60 parents and carers participated in the event by coming in to school to 'share a book' with their child and attend our special Book Assembly. It was a fantastic day - full of exciting costumes (well done everyone), enthusiasm, a genuine interest in books and some great learning. Friendship Week (8 images)

Officially, this week is National Anti Bullying Week. Although we focused on 'saying no to bullying' and discussing how to make sure we are a bully free school, we decided to focus on the positives of friendship.
